R+D Studio is a process-oriented design firm on Martha’s Vineyard, devoted to creating unique spaces and homes for the social occasions that define us. Our curiosity about the world and our passion for design translates into projects that show sensitivity to the character of each site while expressing the dreams of each client. This contextual process is rooted in the belief that thoughtful building never tells, but rather asks. Through inquiry we create space. Our research efforts focus on innovative ideas that bring a clear structure of intent to a project, guiding the many decisions that are made along the way. A key tenet of our philosophy is an understanding that successful buildings are collaborative efforts involving not just the client and architect, but the landscape and interior design, engineers, and builders early in the process. From beginning to end, we care deeply about quality and detail, working closely with the builders and craftspeople who will fabricate the specific elements of each project.
