Designing around an existing pool, we used the programmatic elements of garage, pool house, studio, outdoor kitchen and a detached bedroom to frame the deck, creating a richly layered outdoor social space. It supports, yet remains distinctly separate from the main house. Privacy and the idea of an inward-looking, sunken courtyard drove the design, keeping the mass of the building low by putting the studio space and pool mechanicals below grade.
